Video: Community Reintegration for Youth Burn Survivors

Getting back out there and being with peers is one of the most crucial steps in burn recovery. ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Christen Bradbury is Recreation Therapist and Certified Child Life Specialist who has been involved with the burn community since 2010 when she started her career at Shriners Hospitals for Children - Boston. While there, she started Team Brave, a program that partners with the Boston Firefighters Burn Foundation to provide supported and impactful community reintegration opportunities for patients. She has been working as a consultant for the Phoenix Society's Youth and Family Program since 2015. She is a passionate advocate for the burn community.


Donna McCartney began her work social work career at the Shriners Hospitals for Children - Cincinnati in the fall of 2005. She was quickly connected with the Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors and that next Spring, attended the Phoenix SOAR coordinator training. Donna worked at Shriners Hospitals for 15 years with children and families recovering from burn injuries. She was active on the school-entry team throughout that time and was the coordinator of that program for the last 5 years. Donna has participated in the burn camp program and served on the transitions committee meeting the needs of adolescent and young adult patients. In the fall of 2020, she accepted a new position as a grief and bereavement counselor at Hospice of Cincinnati but remains committed to advocacy and support for the burn community and thankful to have that opportunity through the Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors.


Juan Diego Montoya was born, raised, and now resides in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. He is an electrical burn survivor. After his accident in 2018, he was treated in Shriners Hospitals for Children - Boston, where he participated in Team Brave.
