Understanding Life After a Burn Injury

Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors invited burn survivors to share their experiences through the 2025 State of the Survivor Report Survey. Nearly 500 survivors responded, providing valuable insight into the physical, emotional, and social aspects of recovery.

The 2025 State of the Survivor Report explores how survivors’ needs change over time, where they find support, and where gaps in care and resources remain. The findings will help Phoenix Society and the broader burn community better understand how to support survivors throughout every stage of healing.

While this report offers valuable insight, it reflects only a portion of the survivor community and may not capture the full diversity of injuries, backgrounds, recovery stages, and experiences.

What You’ll Find in the Report

The report explores:

  • Physical symptoms, chronic concerns, and ongoing health needs
  • Emotional and mental health challenges
  • How survivors connect with Phoenix Society and the broader burn community
  • Satisfaction with support throughout different stages of recovery
  • Survivors’ priorities for advocacy and change

These findings highlight both the resilience of burn survivors and the importance of providing accessible, long-term support beyond the initial stages of medical care.
